Adult Services

Adult Services at Ability Connection Texas (ACT)

Adult Services at Ability Connection Texas (ACT)Did you know that there are currently 2.1 million people in Texas that have some type of disability? Add to that the following facts: senior citizens are living longer and facing physical disabilities as they age, veterans will continue to return home in need of support and therapy for acquired disabilities, and more cases of cognitive disabilities such as Autism Spectrum Disorder are being diagnosed each day. With these statistics, it is clear that adults with disabilities and those who care for them need supports and services that will meet their needs for long–term care, autonomy and independence.

Ability Connection Texas has over 58 years of experience in providing essential programs and services that empower adults with disabilities to live the best life possible. Included in our Adult Services are the following programs: IMPACT, Assistive Technology and Residential Services. These programs enable adults to lessen or overcome the effects of their disabilities, to enjoy greater freedom and the benefits of a supportive community of friends and professionals.

Residential Services at Ability Connection Texas

Residential Services at Ability Connection Texas

Ability Connection Texas (ACT) provides caring, family-style living environments for adults with disabilities through its residential services program. ACT currently operates seven homes throughout the North Texas area. These homes, sometimes referred to as group homes, allow individuals with disabilities to live with as much autonomy and independence as possible.

ACT’s residential homes are staffed 24 hours a day. When residents are home, at least two (2) care professionals are there to assist residents with personal care activities such as, feeding, bathing, and personal hygiene, as needed. During sleeping hours, at least one (1) care professional is awake and on duty. ACT’s care professionals also clean and maintain homes, cook meals, and provide personal assistance based on each resident’s needs and abilities.

Our residential homes are accessible for individuals with mobility impairments. Homes are also equipped with roll-in showers and special lifts to help transport residents into and out of wheelchairs and beds.
