Gifts of Hope

Gabby’s Wish

November 18th 2011
www.AbilityConnectionTexas.org

Gifts of Hope Benefiting Ability Connection Texas

What is your wish this holiday season? At Ability Connection Texas (ACT), our wish is for every person to have the tools they need to be as independent as possible.

Gabby's wish this year was for a "shoe". Gabby was born with a physical disability. She had only one arm and one of her feet was attached to her hip and had to be amputated just weeks after she was born. Gabby began coming to the Early Childhood Development and Education center at ACT last year. At that time, she was not yet talking and, with only one leg, she could not walk.

A lot has changed since then. Gabby now communicates well and enjoys interacting with her classmates. She is learning her colors, numbers and shapes in class, and she is also getting around better. Gabby has been working with a physical therapist at ACT to learn how to walk with a new prosthetic leg, or her "shoe," as she calls it! Gabby still has a lot of work ahead of her, but she and her family now have the Gift of Hope. This gift would not be possible without the help of ACT and donors like YOU!

2011 has been a busy year at Ability Connection Texas. We changed our name, opened a new regional office, and continue to serve those who need our help. Despite cuts in healthcare funding and disability services, the need for our services is still present. In fact, we are serving 13% more clients on a daily basis as compared to this time last year.

As the giving season is upon us and as we reach out to those in need, ACT asks that you designate your end-of-year donation to our much-needed programs and services. Our Gifts of Hope campaign is a great way to make a difference by providing help and hope for children and adults with disabilities in our community. This campaign consists of six different levels of giving, or you can choose to give a custom gift of any amount. Remember, every dollar helps and no gift is too small! And since ACT is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, all Gifts of Hope donations are tax-deductible.

At Ability Connection Texas, we are very proud of our exceptional services, but there are many children and adults with disabilities in our community that still need our help! You can make a difference! Please give the Gift of Hope to children and adults with disabilities in our community.

On behalf of clients like Gabby here at Ability Connection Texas, thank you for your support and generosity.

2011 Run, Walk, Roll

Reverchon Park

Benefiting Ability Connection Texas and its services for adults and children with disabilities

Ability Connection Texas wishes to thank all our great Sponsors, Fundraisers, Participants and Volunteers who worked so hard to make the 16th annual Run, Walk, Roll a success! Today over 50 million Americans are living with some kind of physical or intellectual disability. Here in Texas there are 2.1 million people living with disabilities. Ability Connection Texas serves to level the playing field for these individuals by providing vital support, technology and advocacy for people with disabilities. The funds we raise go to provide Early Childhood Education and Therapy for a child living with Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida or Autism, Assistive Technology for an adult seeking to re-enter the workforce, or therapy for a veteran recovering from injuries.

Run, Walk, Roll 1K Walk & RollAbility Connection Texas would not be able to provide its services without the help of its many Sponsors, supporters and donors. The annual Run, Walk, Roll event is a family-friendly way in which interested individuals can get involved and make a difference. Many people in the community donate their time to help out as a volunteer for the event. Families, particularly those with a member who has a disability register to walk in the 1K fun Walk & Roll and many runners from all kinds of backgrounds and levels of athletic ability join us in the 5K Run. Some interested individuals registered as “Sleep In” participants.

Many of our friends also registered as Fundraisers and organized teams at work or among their Facebook friends to raise funds for Ability Connection Texas to help us continue the work we do to provide care and assistance to people with disabilities. Raising funds and organizing a team allows fundraisers to quickly and easily bring people together for our cause – and many have used our videos to learn how to be an effective fundraiser.

In whatever way you may have elected to help, we wish to say THANK YOU to those who have joined us and WELCOME to all who wish to participate!

Again we WELCOME all who wish to support and partipate in Run, Walk, Roll and offer a hearty THANK YOU for all who sponsored, volunteered and participated in the 2011 Run, Walk, Roll!Fundraisers

Society of Hope Reception Highlighting the Artwork of Troy Parker

ACT Society of Hope Reception

April 6th 2011
Gremillion & Co. Fine Art, Inc.

Thank you to the attendees of the Society of Hope Reception highlighting the artwork of Troy Parker on the evening of Wednesday, April, 6, 2011 at Gremillion & Co. Fine Art, Inc in Dallas, Texas. Guests enjoyed food, drink and a one night only special art exhibit with 25 pieces from Parker.

Parker was born in 1967 with Cerebral Palsy, and while his road has often been bumpy, Parker has found a passion for art, more specifically, techno-folk art.

Upon completion of High School in Tyler, Texas, Parker began to take a series of computer graphics courses at Tyler Junior College. During his course work, he completed a piece called “Two by Two” and at the request of his instructor, he submitted the project and was selected to appear in the Tyler Junior College “Touchstone” publication. From there, his talent blossomed and he was encouraged to share his artwork with the public.

Parker’s award winning artwork has appeared at the Abilities Expo in Chicago, The Biblical Arts Center in Dallas, Artstreet in Green Bay The Tyler Museum of Art in Tyler, and many other cities across America.

Thank you to the evening’s sponsors: AmRamp, Glazer’s, Wendy Krispin Catering, Gold Crown Valet, Gremillion & Co. Fine Art, Inc., MillerCoors, Circle K, Crown Imports, Phusion, Inc, and Heinken.

Thanks to all our attendees and sponsors for your generous support of Ability Connection Texas!
