At Ability Connection Texas (ACT), we understand that there are many different facets to living with a disability. Likewise, to better serve the community, ACT offers many different services to help level the playing field and allow individuals to live more independently.For individuals receiving ACT services, our team of expert educators, caregivers, therapists, medical professionals and others work with each individual to determine his or her needs and desires. Taking this into account, our services are then tailored to the unique abilities of each individual. With over 59 years of serving and advocating for individuals with disabilities, ACT is the preeminent organization empowering people with disabilities to realize their full potential and live the best life possible.
Assistive Technology at Ability Connection Texas
The Assistive Technology program (also known as our Removing Limits Through Technology program) at Ability Connection Texas is an innovative program that educates children and adults on how to use assistive technology to be more independent in their daily lives. This program features an assistive technology lab with a variety of computer-related and other technologies along with training opportunities.

Residential Services at Ability Connection Texas
Ability Connection Texas (ACT) provides caring, family-style living environments for adults with disabilities through its residential services program. ACT currently operates seven homes throughout the North Texas area. These homes, sometimes referred to as group homes, allow individuals with disabilities to live with as much autonomy and independence as possible.
ACT’s residential homes are staffed 24 hours a day. When residents are home, at least two (2) care professionals are there to assist residents with personal care activities such as, feeding, bathing, and personal hygiene, as needed. During sleeping hours, at least one (1) care professional is awake and on duty. ACT’s care professionals also clean and maintain homes, cook meals, and provide personal assistance based on each resident’s needs and abilities.
Our residential homes are accessible for individuals with mobility impairments. Homes are also equipped with roll-in showers and special lifts to help transport residents into and out of wheelchairs and beds.

Nursing Services for Individuals with Disabilities
Ability Connection Texas (ACT) offers Nursing Services as part of its comprehensive service array for children and adults with disabilities. Whether supervising medication administration at one of our homes, checking the temperature of a child in our preschool program, administering flu shots or assisting a client with a feeding tube, our professional nursing staff provides top-notch care for all our clients.

Therapy Services for Individuals with Disabilities
Partnering with Ability Connection Texas, the Speech Language Pathology staff at North Dallas Therapy provides diagnosis, treatment, and consultation for a variety of speech and language problems including: receptive and expressive language skills, articulation difficulties, voice disorders, communication problems associated with autism or pervasive developmental disorder, language developmental delays , non verbal communication, swallowing and oral motor concerns.

Day Programs for Individuals with Disabilities
Ability Connection Texas (ACT) provides options for individuals in need of day programs at its regional service center located in Dallas, Texas. This facility provides a unique environment for individualized learning experiences and intensive therapies for children through our Early Childhood Development and Education Center. We also offer an amazing array of Assistive Technology solutions for individuals of all ages through our Assistive Technology program, also known as the Removing Limits Through Technology (RLTT). For adults with disabilities over age 18, ACT provides individualized training, specialized therapies, personal care and social interaction through our IMPACT (Individuals Making Personal Achievements Come True) program.

In-Home Support for Individuals with Disabilities
Ability Connection Texas (ACT) provides in-home services to assist people with physical and intellectual disabilities to experience their highest level of independence. To reach beyond the walls of our regional service centers, ACT employs therapists, nurses, educators and more to bring our services to the individuals with disabilities in Texas.
If you, a loved on, or someone you know has a physical or intellectual disability, the following pages provide information about our services that are designed to help individuals be more independent at home and in the community. These services include our Home and Community–based Services (HCS) program, Community Living Assistance and Support Services (CLASS) program, and Texas Home Living (TxHml) programs. Also, for those seeking to direct their own care, ACT’s Consumer Directed Services (CDS) program provides training and support services to help individuals (or legally authorized representatives) to have greater control over their care.
